Frequently Asked Questions

What makes us different is our ability to understand your vision and adapt our approach to it. We don’t believe in forcing every couple into the same aesthetic or shooting every wedding from the same playbook. Your style, priorities, personalities, and vision guide the way we photograph and film your day.
Our work blends authentic storytelling with polished, editorial imagery designed to feel at home in the pages of a high-end wedding magazine. We’re equally comfortable documenting an elegant black-tie celebration, a timeless traditional New England wedding, a culturally rich ceremony, or something completely unconventional. Whatever your wedding looks like, we approach it with the same attention to composition, light, detail, and storytelling.
Style matters to us—a lot. But so does making sure that style feels like you. We take the time to learn what you're drawn to, from classic and romantic to editorial, cinematic, dark and moody, or light and airy, and use that understanding to create a collection that's cohesive, intentional, and distinctly yours.
And yes, we're still a team of artists, film buffs, music nerds, and former emo kids who love couples who aren't afraid to do things differently. We just happen to be equally excited about a perfectly tailored tux, a cathedral-length veil, and a candlelit ballroom.
Your vision. Our artistry. Images worthy of both your walls and the pages of a magazine.

We believe wedding photography and videography should be straightforward, flexible, and transparent. Our pricing is built around thoughtfully designed packages that cover the most common needs, with optional add-ons that let you customize your experience without paying for things you don’t want.
We offer options for everything from intimate celebrations and shorter coverage to full-day photography and cinematic photo + video collections. We’re also happy to create a custom package when your wedding doesn’t fit neatly into a box.
No mystery pricing, no pressure, and no unnecessary upselling—just clear options and the flexibility to build coverage that makes sense for your wedding.
We believe incredible wedding photography and videography should be accessible across a range of budgets, so we’ll always do our best to find a way to make things work. If you love our work but a package falls outside your budget, talk to us before counting us out. We offer flexible payment plans, customizable packages, and different coverage options that can help bring the numbers closer to where you need them to be. We’re always transparent about pricing and will never pressure you into spending more than you’re comfortable with. Every wedding is different, and whenever possible, we’d rather get creative with the package and payment schedule than have budget be the only reason we can’t tell your story.

Relaxed, collaborative, and genuinely fun. We believe the best photos happen when you’re comfortable enough to forget there’s a camera around.
From the moment you book, we’ll help with planning, timelines, locations, and all the little details that make your wedding day run smoothly. When it’s time for portraits, we’ll give you enough direction that you never have to wonder “What do I do with my hands?”—without forcing you into stiff, unnatural poses.
Most importantly, we want you to feel like yourselves. We’ll laugh with you, embrace the weird, roll with the unexpected, and know when to step back and let a moment happen naturally. By the time your wedding arrives, we don’t want to feel like strangers with cameras—we want to feel like people you’re genuinely happy to have there.
You enjoy your wedding. We’ll make sure you remember what it felt like.

We offer professional wedding photography and videography throughout New England, with flexible packages designed for everything from intimate elopements to full-day celebrations.
Our services include photography, cinematic wedding films, engagement sessions, second photographers and videographers, drone coverage, photo booth rentals, professional album design, live streaming, and content creation. We also offer custom coverage and add-ons so you can build an experience around what actually matters to you—rather than paying for things you don't need.
Whether you're looking for timeless photography, a cinematic film, or complete photo + video coverage, our goal is simple: tell your story authentically, beautifully, and in a way that feels unmistakably yours.
-
Absolutely. Everyone belongs in front of our cameras.
Over the years, we've had the privilege of photographing dozens of LGBTQ+ couples, as well as couples whose skin tones span the full spectrum and whose cultures, faiths, traditions, and lived experiences may be very different from our own. We don't simply say we're inclusive—we've built years of experience working with people from all walks of life, and we're incredibly proud of the diversity of the couples who have trusted us with their stories.
When we're invited to photograph a wedding with cultural or religious traditions that aren't our own, we take that responsibility seriously. We listen, ask questions, do our homework, and learn as much as we can before the wedding so we understand not only what is happening, but why it matters. Our goal is always to document those traditions with the respect, care, and attention they deserve.
That commitment to inclusivity exists within our team, too. One of our most talented and beloved photographers, who has been part of Cape & Veil Co. since our earliest days, is a proud trans man. Creating a space where people can be completely themselves isn't a marketing statement for us; it's part of who we are as a company.
Whatever your race, culture, age, body type, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, faith, or family structure, you'll receive the same enthusiasm, respect, and commitment to creating exceptional imagery.
Your story doesn't need to look like ours for us to understand how important it is. It's our job to learn, to listen, and to tell it beautifully.

Cape & Veil Co. has been photographing and filming love stories across New England for more than seven years, and our team brings experience from hundreds of weddings along the way.
What started as a passion for photography, filmmaking, and storytelling has grown into an experienced team of photographers and videographers with one shared goal: creating exceptional work while giving our couples an experience they’ll actually enjoy. Over the years, we’ve photographed everything from intimate elopements and backyard celebrations to traditional church ceremonies, multicultural weddings, and large, high-end events.
That experience means we know weddings rarely go exactly according to plan—and we know how to adapt, keep things moving, and still create beautiful, intentional images when they don’t.
-
Absolutely. Cape & Veil Co. is fully insured, and we carry the professional and liability coverage necessary to satisfy the requirements of even the most stringent wedding venues. If your venue requires proof of coverage, we’re always happy to provide a current Certificate of Insurance (COI) upon request.
We’re also proud members of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and take the professional side of this business just as seriously as the creative side. From contracts and insurance to equipment and backup procedures, we believe being trusted with something as important as your wedding means showing up not only as artists, but as prepared, responsible professionals.
-
Absolutely. We never believed that every couple—or every wedding—should look the same. During the planning process, we’ll talk about the imagery you’re drawn to and the overall feeling you want your photographs to have. We've spent years developing, tweaking, and mastering 5 distinct stylws from which you cam choose. Whether you love light and airy, traditional/ timeless, dark and moody /cinematic/ boho, photojournalistic / candid. or polished editorial imagery, we’ll use your preferences to guide the final look while maintaining the quality and consistency Cape & Veil is known for.
-
A lot! While every wedding is different, we typically deliver at least 150 professionally edited images per hour of photography coverage. We believe the little moments matter just as much as the big ones, so your gallery will tell the complete story of your day—from the details and portraits to the hugs, tears, questionable dance moves, and everything in between.
-
Our standard turnaround time for a complete wedding gallery is approximately 30 days. We take editing seriously and individually curate and professionally edit your collection rather than rushing your images through an automated process. We want you to receive them quickly, but never at the expense of quality.
-
Wedding films require considerably more post-production than photography, so turnaround times vary depending on the film collection and time of year. We’ll provide you with a clear estimated delivery window for your specific package and keep you updated throughout the process. We’d rather take the time to create a film you’ll still want to watch decades from now than rush one out the door. We typically guarantee a time frame of no longer than 45 days, but again, this all depends on your package, length of wedding, etc.
-
Yes! Waiting a month to see anything from your wedding would be cruel. We typically deliver a curated sneak peek within 4–7 days, giving you a selection of professionally edited images to relive the day—and, of course, immediately start sharing.
-
Absolutely. Photography and videography have a huge impact on how smoothly a wedding timeline works, so timeline assistance is part of the experience. We’ll work with you and your planner or coordinator to make sure there’s enough time for the photographs you care about without turning your wedding into an eight-hour photoshoot. You should actually get to attend your own wedding.
-
Yes—but probably not the way you're imagining. We provide direction when you need it, particularly for portraits and editorial images, but we don't want you frozen in stiff poses all afternoon. We'll guide your positioning, movement, light, and composition while encouraging natural interaction between you. The goal is intentional without looking
-
Nearly everyone tells us this. Seriously. You don't need to know how to pose—that's our job. We'll give you direction, keep things moving, make you laugh, and create an environment where you can stop thinking about the camera. Some of our favorite photographs have come from couples who started their session by warning us that they're terrible at pictures.
-
Absolutely. While New England is home, we're always happy to pack our cameras and hit the road.
-
There really isn't a limit. We regularly work throughout Massachusetts and across New England, and we're happy to travel anywhere your wedding takes us. Depending on the distance and logistics, reasonable travel or accommodation costs may apply, and we'll always discuss those with you upfront.
-
Yes—and please give us an excuse to use our passports. We love destination weddings and are available for celebrations throughout the United States and internationally. Destination collections can be customized around your itinerary, events, and coverage needs.
-
Absolutely. Engagement sessions are a great opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera, learn how we work together, and create photographs somewhere meaningful to you without the time constraints of a wedding day. They're available and part ofnwith nearly all of our collections and can also be added separately, should your package be customized to stay within your budget.
-
Our standard retainer is 50% of your collection, but flexibility is important to us. Depending on your package and circumstances, we can often offer a smaller initial retainer and divide the remaining balance into manageable payments. If you love our work but the standard payment structure doesn't work for you, talk to us—we'll always see what we can do.
-
Once you've selected your collection, we'll send everything electronically through our client management system. Your wedding date is officially reserved once your contract is signed and the agreed-upon retainer is received. From there, that date belongs to you.
-
First: celebrate—you can officially cross photography and/or videography off the list. Then we'll begin learning about you and your wedding. We'll discuss your style and priorities, coordinate your engagement session if applicable, help develop your photography timeline and family portrait list, and schedule planning conversations as the wedding approaches. You're also welcome to reach out along the way. We're not disappearing between your retainer and your wedding day.
-
For peak-season Saturdays, 12–18 months in advance is ideal, and popular dates can book even earlier. That said, we've photographed weddings booked more than a year ahead and weddings booked with remarkably little notice. If your date is approaching, don't assume we're unavailable—ask us.
-
Of course. In fact, we encourage it. We're happy to schedule a phone or video consultation so you can meet us, ask questions, talk through your vision, and make sure we're the right fit. Your photographers spend a surprising amount of your wedding day beside you. You should actually like them. And throughout the course of time leading up your date, in-person meetings can certainly be accommodated.
-
Yes. Cape & Veil is a team, but we believe you should know who's showing up to photograph your wedding. We'll match you with a photographer based on availability, personality, experience, and—most importantly—the visual style and vision you've shared with us. You'll have an opportunity to connect with your photographer before the wedding so they're not a stranger arriving with a camera on one of the biggest days of your life.
-
One of the advantages of hiring an established photography company rather than relying entirely on a single individual is redundancy. Cape & Veil works with a trusted team of experienced professional photographers and videographers. In the rare event that illness or a genuine emergency prevents your assigned photographer from attending, we have experienced professionals we can call upon to make sure your wedding is covered.
-
Absolutely. Knowing how to create beautiful photographs when the available light is terrible is one of the things that separates experienced wedding photographers from someone who simply owns a nice camera. Our team is experienced with professional flash, off-camera lighting, low-light photography, and challenging reception environments, from candlelit spaces to dark dance floors.
-
We listen before we shoot. During the planning process, we'll talk about the photographs you love, the ones you don't, your preferred editing aesthetic, what you want your wedding to feel like, and which elements of the day matter most to you. Inspiration boards and example photographs are absolutely welcome.
Our goal isn't to recreate someone else's wedding. It's to understand why you're drawn to certain imagery and use that understanding, along with our own artistic perspective, to create something distinctly yours. -
We don't think you should have to choose between them.
Much of the wedding day is approached journalistically: observing, anticipating, and documenting real moments without interrupting them. When it's time for portraits, we become more intentional—considering location, light, posing, composition, wardrobe, and detail to create polished, magazine-worthy imagery.
The result is a gallery with both: photographs that show what your wedding looked like and photographs that bring you immediately back to what it felt like. -
Something probably will—and that's okay.
After hundreds of weddings, we've seen rainstorms, broken timelines, missing bouquets, wardrobe emergencies, transportation problems, difficult lighting, equipment failures, ceremonies running an hour late, and plenty of other surprises.
Experience isn't about guaranteeing that nothing unexpected will happen. It's about knowing what to do when it does. We carry backup equipment, maintain redundant workflows, carry professional insurance, work with an experienced team, build contingency time into our planning whenever possible, and know how to adapt without transferring that stress to you.
When something changes, we'll solve the problem, adjust the plan, and keep photographing. You have better things to do on your wedding day than worry about us. -
Because photography and videography are telling the same story, and they're at their best when the people creating them are working together rather than competing for the same moments.
When you hire Cape & Veil for both, your photographers and filmmakers share a creative approach, understand the same timeline and priorities, and coordinate positioning throughout the day. That means fewer competing directions, less duplication, smoother portraits, and a more cohesive visual style across your photographs and wedding film.
It also makes planning considerably easier: one team, one vision, one point of contact, and one company responsible for preserving your story. -
